Our Purpose
Since 1981, ABATE’s purpose has been to represent the large energy user viewpoint on energy and utility issues before all appropriate governmental bodies and other pertinent organizations which affect energy pricing, reliability, sustainability and terms and conditions of service in Michigan.
ABATE’s regulatory involvement has helped to drastically reduce Michigan’s electricity rates and natural gas delivery rates. ABATE continues its mission to be vigilant in securing reasonable rates in the face of predicted substantial cost increases.
What we do
Maintain a persistent and active voice at the Michigan Public Service Commission which sets energy rates, the terms and conditions of service and ultimately affects the reliability and availability of power.
Represent members’ interests in front of the Michigan Legislature in order to make sure that any legislation passed is balanced and leads to affordable and reliable energy.
Participate in cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court in order to protect the interests of industrial customers, when warranted.
Participate as a member of the End-Use Customer sector of the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO).
Intervene in important cases at FERC that impact the costs allocated to Michigan related to wholesale market transactions related to sales and transmission.
Communicate ABATE’s views to regulators, government members, and the public through press releases, meetings, and through its lobbyist.
