ABATE’s Purpose

To represent the large energy user viewpoint on energy and utility issues before all appropriate governmental bodies and other pertinent organizations which affect energy pricing, reliability and terms and conditions of service in Michigan.

What ABATE Does

  • ABATE is a persistent and active voice at the Michigan Public Service Commission which sets energy rates, the terms and conditions of service and ultimately affects the reliability and availability of power.
  • ABATE represents members’ interests in front of the Michigan Legislature in order to make sure that any legislation passed is balanced and leads to affordable and reliable energy.
  • ABATE also participates in cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court in order to protect the interests of industrial customers, when warranted.
  • ABATE participates as a member of the End Use Customer sector of the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO).
  • ABATE intervenes in important cases at FERC that impact the costs allocated to Michigan related to wholesale market transactions related to sales and transmission. 
  • ABATE communicates its views to regulators, government members, and the public through press releases, meetings, and through its lobbyist.
